FAQS

Frequently asked questions about our studio.

Do you need any experience?

No you do not need any previous experience to take part in any of our programs (fitness or karate). All you need is a positive attitude and an open mind!

Do parents need to stay?

Nope! Parents do not need to stay unless it’s in our ages 4-6 program, in which case we ask parents to stick around in case your little one needs the washroom during class.

How much do your programs costs?

We allow new members to try and/or observe a class prior to registering for our programs. Once you’re ready, we start everyone with our six week trial period for $175 +hst, which includes your karate uniform or a pair of boxing gloves.

Once your six weeks are up, we switch to our standard membership of 2 classes per week for $50 +hst bi-weekly. This may change depending on how often you wish to train.

Are there any sibling discounts?

We offer family discounts for families of 3 or more. This can be a combination of mum/dad taking part in a fitness class while the kids take part in karate.

How old do you need to be to start?

We ask that our karate students be at least 4 years old, but we do make the odd exception. And remember, you are never too old to start as well!

For our fitness programs, we ask that participants be at least 16 years old.

And if you are interested in our personal training services or mini-sessions, just send us an email! Ages may vary depending on the program.

Is Boxfit real boxing?

Truthfully… not exactly. We utilize what we know through karate to teach a fitness boxing class. It will include footwork and drills typically taught in a boxing ring, but it won’t exactly be a boxing class.

Our members do rave about our program and thoroughly enjoy the challenges they are given each week.

How do payments work?

We run everything through Square but offer pre-authorized payment plans through debit and credit. You will continue to receive invoices but will automatically receive a receipt once your payment has been approved.

This is just our way to track memberships on the back-end of the studio.

What if I only wish to train for competition?

Members who are only looking to train with our competitive instructor, Sensei Hamoon, are required to train with Sensei James in addition to their competitive training. This is a standard practice we require in order to reap the benefits of our high performance athlete and coaching team.

What style of karate do you practice?

We teach Goju Ryu Karatedo in addition to WKF Sport Karate underneath Karate Canada and our provincial sport organization, Karate Ontario.

If I trained in another style, do I need to start at white belt?

If you trained in another style of karate, then we can discuss our options. Some individuals wish to start at white belt while others will feel more motivated to continue where they left off.

At the end of the day, if you are willing to learn what’s required in our dojo then we are ok with you continuing at your current belt level.

If you trained in a completely different martial arts (i.e. judo or taekwondo) then you will be required to begin at white belt.
